Kilkenny, Leinster, Ireland
Kilkenny is an Irish city located in the southern part of the province of Leinster. It has a population of 26,512. Its name comes from the Irish ‘Cill Chainnigh’, meaning ‘Church of Cainnech’. Kilkenny is an important tourist destination, full of historic buildings. Kilkenny Castle, St Canice’s Cathedral, Black Abbey, St Mary’s Cathedral are only some of the city’s must-sees. The city became a brewing centre in the late 17th century, and still houses a number of breweries to this day. Also found in Kilkenny are numerous art galleries, craft and design workshops, theatre, public gardens and museums. As such, it has become one of Ireland’s most visited cities.
