Newtownabbey is a large settlement in Northern Ireland and is sometimes considered to be a suburb of Belfast. It has a population of 65,646. The settlement was formed in 1958 through the merging of seven villages; Carnmoney, Glengormley, Jordanstown, Monkstown, Whiteabbey, Whitehouse and Whitewell. Newtownabbey is mainly a residential area but is home to many engineering and computer industries as well. Ulster University, the largest university of Northern Ireland has its main campus in Newtownabbey too.
